Exercise and Healthy Aging (worth a read).
At age 81, incapacitated and depressed as I was, I could not help but think this condition was taking me to the end of life. The sooner the better was how I felt at the time.
A year ago, February 2021, I was laid up with sciatica pain that became progressively worse over several days and ended up lasting for five weeks. During that time, I could barely get out of bed, or move from my bed to the bathroom and the kitchen, or stand long enough in the kitchen to prepare my meals – meaning that I needed help with taking care of the most fundamental of human care and survival needs.
Sitting up became almost impossible, which made it difficult to read or watch TV. With few distractions to help keep my mind off things, I fell into deep depression. At age 81, incapacitated and depressed as I was, I could not help but think this condition was taking me to the end of life. The sooner the better was how I felt at the time.
So, now it’s a year later, and I’m still here and doing great! What happened to change things for me?
As luck would have it, Coach Julio did a Zoom presentation for our April chapter meeting of Mass Senior Action Council (CLick Here to Watch). That presentation connected with a secret hope, which I didn’t even know lay deep inside me. That secret hope got me to sign up for Coach Julio’s Zoom trainings and to start practicing the exercises. And, just like that, I got my life back.
Within days after my first Zoom training session with Coach Julio, I was getting out of bed with no problem. Within weeks, the training sessions and my practice got me down the two flights of stairs to the front door of the house where I live. Within a couple months, I was able to do a one-mile walk several times a week. Fitness training and practice gave me back my life and are now a solid part of my daily routine.
