Dobryi den.

Growing up in Dorchester, Boston, I never imagined I’d one day be writing about Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. After seven humanitarian trips since 2022, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to share the reality of what civilians are facing.

Even with the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act signed into law on September 18, enforcement is what counts now, and Russia’s daily attacks on homes, hospitals, and public spaces remain grave violations of international humanitarian law.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to publish this op-ed in the Dorchester Reporter and to bring an on-the-ground perspective to readers in my beloved childhood neighborhood, across the United States, and around the world.

Even a share, like, or comment is a meaningful act of solidarity.

Thinking of all my Ukrainian friends, the volunteers I’ve met from around the world, and the heroes on the front lines. This one is for you, and I have not forgotten.

Dyakuyu,
Coach Julio
